Record number of alumni attended UM Star Lectures
The third edition of the UM Star Lectures drew a record number of attendees this year. On the UM Star Lectures day, prominent UM professors give lectures to UM alumni in different locations. This year the lectures took place in 13 cities in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom. The event drew a record number of 900 alumni.
The lectures were held in different cities near our alumni, and covered a broad rage of societally relevant topics. Kirian Patel, professor of European and Global History, discussed the Brexit in London. He spoke about the lessons we can draw from the past for the situation today. In Berlin, Valentina Mazzucato (professor Globalization and Development) talked about the wellbeing of families separated by migration: how do European migration policies influence the ways transnational migrant families fare? Hildegard Schneider, dean of the Faculty of Law and professor of European Union Law, went to Brussels to give a lecture on the many challenges the EU faces 25 years after the Maastricht Treaty.

11 out of the 13 lectures were completely booked. The UM Star Lecture series is one of the events organised for UM's alumni-community, which currently consists of over 60,000 graduates. In UM alumni hotspots, places where a lot of UM alumni live, the university regularly organises lectures, workshops and informal network events. For more information go to the alumni site.
